November - December 2007

December 26, 2007

December has flown by!  Although we have been quite a bit less busy than the prior two months, we have somehow managed to stay active and the time has flown by.  At the beginning of the month, we headed down to Los Angeles for the DV Expo, a three-day digital video conference and expo.  It was a great opportunity for James and I to learn about some of the new technology coming out and to learn that we're doing things like many other production companies do.  We explored the Expo, met our friends at Avid and Sorenson, plus purchased some new equipment that will continue to help our company provide a high quality video product to our clients.  We got a new wide-angle adapter lens as well as about 36 feet of track, allowing us to get very nice steady movement shots for some of our bigger gigs.

We did our first two shoots with our client, Critical Care Solutions, who provides an emergency medical kit for the dental office.  Roland Guy formed the company a couple years ago in response to a young child who died in the dentist chair.  Their medical kit is a great product for dentists and we're excited to be producing the training video that will accompany the kit.  In addition, we did our first shoot with Brian Sharp, owner of Go Big! which is a motivational company that works to inspire young people to make the most of themselves.

We finished up our promo video for Curing Kids' Cancer.  Check it out by taking the direct link to our html site.

We are excited about a new relationship that we're developing with the MetroHub Network. Metrohub has launched in midtown Sacramento and is a community-oriented advertising outlet for small businesses.  They position flat screen televisions in high traffic areas in small areas of a "network" and put 15-second visual advertising spots in rotation on the televisions.  This provides excellent exposure for small businesses that typically cannot afford high cost print advertising but who are looking for great exposure.  For the past few months, they have been developing all of the advertising spots using flash but we are excited to provide their video production services for those advertising partners that want to take it to the next level.  Look out for MetroHub in a community near you!

As we approached the holidays, SIMZ held a very nice dinner with our staff and freelancers at our favorite spot for good eats and wine, Fran's Cafe.  It is such a pleasure to be surrounded by those with great talent and ambition.  SIMZ is excited to build more partnerships in 2008 with more small businesses and those who work to support small businesses.  Happy holidays and happy new year to everyone!

What a slacker I have been on updating our news!  We have been busy cranking out our video projects to catch up and get organized for 2008.  We are slowly making our way through the 20+ projects that we've acquired the past few months and are feeling great about accomplishing a number of new projects.  Check out our portfolio page for the latest and greatest, including a new local commercial and videos from the Sonoma County wine country.

We are very excited because we recently filed our papers for incorporation.  In the next week, we will officially be SIMZ Productions, Inc.!  We are pleased about the legal protection this gives our company and are proud about this new step.

As we head into December, we anticipate fewer phone calls and projects, but we never know what the week will bring.  We are hoping to do some "catch-up" during this traditionally slower time.  We will be heading down to Los Angeles for the DVExpo, which will be an opportunity for us to learn tips and techniques about a number of video production-related tasks, as well as a chance for us to see the latest and greatest technology.  Towards the end of Decmeber, Mark Howlett, a graduate in December from Sac State in Film, will be joining our team.  He will be a full-time intern through August and we are extremely happy to have him  on board.

November is here!  Pretty amazing.  We are extremely excited to announce that we have a new editor!  Her name is Kira Takeshita and she graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Film Studies.  She is working full time with us now after working as an intern with us for a few months.  She is extremely talented and we are so thankful for the help!  We'll have her bio and pic up on the About Us section soon.

We shot a few commercials this week. One is for an upcoming local commercial for a mortgage and real estate sales company, Moneyworld.  The second was a Spanish version of the Recreditpair commercial.  Look for those soon!
